WHO
WE ARE
Africa 2030 is an international organization based on a partnership between people and organizations from Africa and around the world. We believe that Africa’s future depends on its own people and resources. Through international partnerships, these local strengths are reinforced to create long-term sustainable solutions.
GORILLA
CONSERVATION
The Grauer’s gorilla, also known as the Eastern Lowland gorilla is endemic to the Democratic Republic of Congo and due to decades of war, poaching, illegal mining etc. is the world’s most threatened gorilla subspecies. Africa 3030 works in cooperation with the Pole Pole Foundation and the Kahuzi Biega National Park, the world's largest stronghold of eastern lowland gorillas, to develop holistic community conservation projects. The Congo rainforest is the world’s second largest carbon sink and the most pristine rainforest on earth. We are working hard to protect it and support the communities who live around it.
Africa 3030 operates an innovative project which has introduced drone technology for conservation to the Kahuzi-Biéga National Park. Through ongoing and systematic drone surveillance, the project helps eco-guards detect and deter illegal activities such as illegal farming, poaching, mining, tree cutting etc. At the same time, drone footage and images are used to provide tactical information to the DRC military and eco-guards during times of armed conflict, and to encourage ecotourism through their dissemination in various media outlets. A professional drone has been acquired, local eco-guards have been trained and our local team is proficient in the use of this technology.
